Can’t keep a good woman down…

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the sport of choice in our household. It’s an activity that both of my kids can participate in, the classes are close to home, they can compete on individual levels, and it provides self defense training.

My 8yo daughter has been taking karate since she was 4 and has been doing jiu-jitsu for the last 2 yrs. and totally loves it!!!

It was tournament time again… The kids had there belt advancement and tournament for their jiujitsu class.

DD and DS both came in first in their divisions and were thrilled with their trophies…

Jiu-Jitsu ~ good for ya'

My kids have been taking karate for the last several years and loved it... their instructor decided to branch off  more in to the jiu-Jitsu area and recently has became an all jiu-jitsu training facility... well, it has definitely became the sports love of both of my kidlets...

They have been to several tournaments and recently we had another one with a belt promotion at the school... They both placed 3rd in their divisions and my hubby and I both as thrilled as they were... even though I still have trouble watching at times (fear of pain) it is wonderful to see them compete at something they love and something that is not only good physically, but has so many other benefits the main one being "SELF DEFENSE"... In jiu-jitsu, it's referred to as being the graceful art, because size doesn't matter ~ technique is key!!

Belt Promotion...

Recently my son advanced into another class at Karate and began taking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu... It is very different from the martial arts he has been taking... This is more on the floor action and grappling...

 He takes this at Real World Martial Arts, which is one of only 4 schools in Tennessee to be approved for the Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association. So we are very fortunate to have this school so close to us...

Jiu Jitsu..

DS recently had his testing for belt advancement in Jiu-Jitsu... He is taking classes in the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu method... He has only been taking this form of martial arts for about 4 months... Prior to this he was taking karate, but when he advanced to the older age group, he entered the Jiu-Jitsu class...


He did really well... The class grappled among the weight classes and I was nervous watching, because to me, it looked like he was being man-handled... But he now has advanced to a "gold" belt and won a bronze metal for points in grappling!! I was so proud!!!

March and time for the kids to have their testing for belt advancement...

This time DS is graduating up to another class... He has learned all his Little Dragon forms and is excited to move to the next class... DD is go her purple belt... and this was my nephew's (who has just turned 4)  first time at testing..

Have a I mentioned how much my kids love karate?

They take classes 2x a week and look forward to each and every one... 

It is yet again time to test for another belt... DS is moving up to a red belt and DD is moving up to a green belt...

I am so proud that they are doing something that they love so much and doing so well at it...

 

KUNG FU PANDA

This afternoon we went to see Kung Fu Panda with DC's karate class... It was a great movie... It taught an excellent lesson in that we have to believe in ourselves and that's what makes each of us special... I definately would recommend  it as a "family must-see"...You can check out more about the movie here ...
